Chela Media was founded in 2022 by writer, director, and commentator Brandon Loran Maxwell following the breakout success of his indie film American Homeboy. The film attracted multiple distribution offers before landing on Apple TV. Through an entirely independent marketing campaign, Brandon sold out screenings in 26 cities, generated over 10 million social media views, and earned coverage across dozens of national and local media outlets.
